This project involved re-working the internal ground floor layout of a period property in the South Downs National Park. The house had a dark, compact kitchen, disconnected from the rear garden by a bathroom. The brief was to create a light, open plan kitchen/dining area, with sufficient space for an island, dining table with improved access to the garden.
We initially produced accurate floor plans, elevations, sections and a site plan. These formed the basis for the subsequent design work and successful full plans building regulations submission.
Replacement of a structural wall between the kitchen and bathroom with steel supports provided the required living space. An existing window to the rear was widened and the structural wall cut away to floor level. A new lintel was installed and powder coated aluminium bi-fold doors fitted. This provided level access to the rear, much needed daylight and beautiful views of the garden and the national park beyond. A further structural wall was removed from the rear hallway, stairs widened and a new partition wall formed. This provided space for the insertion of a ground floor WC with wash hand basin.
''Originally unsure of how much we would need the detailed plans that Dave produced, they and he, turned out to invaluable during the whole process of our kitchen makeover. He was professional and courteous at all times and the quality of his work was excellent. Dave was always available to follow up queries from the builder once they started and came on site when needed. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.''
